From The Desk of Tauzzari Robinson

Dear BGC of Greater Flint Family,

As a young person who grew up and attended my local Boys & Girls Club, I nurtured a dream of one day leading my own Boys & Girls Club as a Unit Director. In 2009, I was presented with the opportunity to fulfill this aspiration at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint. Over the years, I aspired to fill the role of CEO of a Boys & Girls Club organization. In 2014, I was honored to assume this position and have served as the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint for over a decade.

I am excited to share that I will soon begin a new chapter in my professional journey. After more than a decade of dedicated service to BGCGF, I will soon begin transitioning into the position of Executive Director of the Michigan Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs. In this role, I will spearhead statewide legislative initiatives, oversee fundraising efforts, manage grant management, and foster collaboration with 16 Boys & Girls Clubs serving over 40,000 youth across Michigan.

Reflecting on the past 15 years at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint, I am filled with immense pride in the exceptional programs we have developed to enrich the lives of youth in Flint and Genesee County. This organization holds a special place in my heart, and I am deeply grateful for the unwavering dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners, and parents who have consistently prioritized the well-being of our children. As I embark on this new chapter, I am eager to continue supporting BGCGF in my new role and anticipate the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Board, our staff, and all those who have been instrumental in this remarkable journey. I firmly believe that the Club is uniquely positioned to address the needs of our community and eagerly anticipate continuing to provide essential resources to our community. As you are undoubtedly aware, there is an overwhelming demand for high-quality programs and services, such as those that our organization consistently delivers. Over the past fifteen years, we have served tens of thousands of young people and their families, providing them with transformative programs, services, and resources. None of this would have been feasible without your unwavering support. It has been an extraordinary journey, and I am profoundly grateful for the privilege of being a part of such an impactful organization.

The organization continues to thrive under the guidance of our leadership team, exceptional youth development professionals, and Amber Miller, who will serve as the interim CEO during this transition. I remain fully committed to supporting BGCGF throughout this period and beyond, and I am excited for what the future holds as we continue to champion the Boys & Girls Clubs mission. I extend my sincere gratitude to the Board, our staff, and everyone who has contributed to this remarkable journey.

With gratitude,
Tauzzari Robinson”

Statement on Rising Teen Gun Violence
Tauzzari Robinson, CEO
july 2024

In light of the recent rise in teen gun violence within our community, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint remains steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our youth. Our CEO has prepared a statement addressing this critical issue, outlining our efforts and dedication to creating a secure environment for all our members. We invite you to read this important message and join us in supporting our community during these challenging times.

CEO’s Statement on Rising Teen Gun Violence

In recent months, our community has seen a troubling increase in incidents of gun violence involving teenagers. This surge in violence not only puts our youth at risk but also threatens the safety and well-being of our community. As an organization that serves hundreds of teens and over one thousand youth each year, we are dedicated to creating a safer, healthier, and more hopeful future for all. We cannot stand by and watch as our young people continue to be harmed.

Recently, two young men that attended the Club were victims of gun violence. These senseless acts have profoundly affected our staff, volunteers, and youth. We remember these young men not just as Club members, but as vibrant members of our community who were future leaders full of hope and promise. Their untimely deaths have only intensified our commitment to preventing future tragedies.

We recognize that the rise in teen gun violence is a complex issue with deep-rooted causes, including systemic inequalities, lack of access to mental health resources, and much more. Each incident of violence leaves an irreparable scar on our community. We are calling on community stakeholders, funders, volunteers, and other community partners to join us in tackling this critical issue. Now more than ever, it is important for youth to have a safe place to go and become the best version of themselves.

I truly believe together we can implement sustainable solutions that make a difference. Here are ways you can help:

  • Funding: Your financial support is crucial. By donating to high quality programs, you enable us to expand our outreach and provide much needed services. Donations can be made at www.bgclubflint.org/donate.

  • Volunteering: The need for passionate and dedicated volunteers are needed more than ever. Your time and skills can help guide a young person toward a positive path and away from violence. Our volunteer application and volunteer opportunities can be found at www.bgclubflint.org/volunteer.

  • Partnership: Most importantly, collaboration is key. I invite local businesses, schools, law enforcement and others to partner with us. We know that high quality programs and caring adults can have a tremendous impact. We are looking for individuals and groups to offer programming focused on Academics, Health & Wellness, and Sports & Recreation at our two locations. Together, we can work to address the various challenges that our community is facing.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint is committed to working with others to combat the issues that our youth are facing, but we cannot do it alone. We need your support to build a safer, stronger community for the youth of today and future generations. If you have an idea or need help amplifying the work that you are already doing, please do not hesitate to reach out. For more information on how you can get involved, please visit our website at www.bgclubflint.org or contact me at trobinson@bgclubflint.org.
